10 Things to Keep in Mind This Year When Sending Job Applications

  1. Make your CV ATS-friendly. Most companies use Applicant Tracking Systems to filter CVs. Ensure yours is well-structured and easy to read by these systems.
  2. Prepare for interviews. Don’t show up without a plan. Practice answering questions like, “Tell me about yourself,” and tailor your response to the role you’re applying for.
  3. Always include a proper title and a brief message when sending your CV. Show genuine interest in the role and why you’re a great fit.
  4. Save your CV with a professional name. Avoid generic names like “My CV.” Instead, use something like “Jane_Smith_ProjectManager_CV.”
  5. Read the job description thoroughly before applying. Don’t just skim through. Make sure you understand what the company is looking for and tailor your CV to match.
  6. Write professional emails. Sending just “Hi” or “Hello” to recruiters via email is a no-go. Keep it professional, polite, and direct—email is not WhatsApp!
  7. Keep your LinkedIn profile updated. Treat it like your digital CV—add your skills, achievements, and a professional photo. It’s often the first place recruiters look.
  8. Don’t send generic applications. Take the time to customize your CV and cover letter for each role. Personalization goes a long way.
  9. Follow up politely. If you haven’t heard back after applying or interviewing, a friendly follow-up can remind them of your interest.
  10. Pray fervently over your applications. Sometimes, it’s not just about a quality CV, only favour can open some doors

Your job search doesn’t have to be stressful. With these simple tweaks, you can make a stronger impression and land the opportunities you’re aiming for!
