A standout resume needs to be clear, concise, and tailored to the job you’re applying for. Here are some key tips to make your resume shine:

Contents
1. Structure & Formatting2. Strong Summary3. Tailored Experience Section4. Skills & Certifications5. Education (if relevant)6. Additional Sections (if applicable)7. ATS Optimization (Applicant Tracking System)8. Proofread & Get Feedback

1. Structure & Formatting

  • Keep it concise (1 page for less experienced candidates, 2 pages max for experienced professionals).
  • Use a clean, professional format (consistent fonts, bullet points, and proper spacing).
  • Use reverse chronological order (most recent experience first).
  • Avoid large blocks of text—make it easy to skim.

2. Strong Summary

  • Open with a powerful summary (2–3 lines highlighting your experience, skills, and career goals).
  • Customize this section for each job application.

3. Tailored Experience Section

  • Quantify achievements (e.g., “Increased sales by 30% in six months” instead of “Responsible for sales”).
  • Focus on results and impact, not just duties.
  • Use strong action verbs (e.g., “Led,” “Implemented,” “Optimized”).
  • Align your experience with the job description—use keywords from the posting.

4. Skills & Certifications

  • Highlight relevant technical and soft skills.
  • List certifications and special training.

5. Education (if relevant)

  • If you’re a recent graduate, include GPA (if 3.5+), honors, and relevant coursework.
  • Otherwise, keep it brief with degree, school, and graduation year.

6. Additional Sections (if applicable)

  • Projects (if relevant to the job).
  • Volunteer work (especially if it demonstrates leadership or key skills).
  • Publications, awards, or languages (if relevant).

7. ATS Optimization (Applicant Tracking System)

  • Many companies use ATS software to filter resumes.
  • Use keywords from the job description.
  • Avoid graphics, tables, and unusual fonts that can confuse ATS.

8. Proofread & Get Feedback

  • Spelling or grammar mistakes can be a dealbreaker.
  • Have a friend, mentor, or career coach review it.
