Interviewer: “What are your strengths?”
🚩 Common Mistakes:
❌ Example 1: “My strength is multitasking”
❌ Example 2: “I’m a perfectionist”
If you’ve ever answered like this in an interview, it might raise a red flag. But why?
Multitasking might sound impressive, but for interviewers, it signals a lack of focus. People who multitask often end up less productive, make more mistakes & leave tasks incomplete. Instead of saying “multitasking,” try reframing it as “managing priorities” or “time management”
✅ Better Example:
“I’m skilled at distinguishing which tasks require immediate attention, ensuring that every assignment gets the focus it deserves.”
Perfectionism might sound like a great trait, but it can signal to interviewers that you might struggle to meet deadlines, overthink even minor tasks, or find it hard to move on until the work is “perfect.” Essentially, it’s more of a weakness than a strength.
✅ Better Example:
“I have high standards for my work, but I also know when to move forward to maintain efficiency & meet deadlines.”
Avoid cliché answers during interviews. Instead, reframe your strengths in a way that showcases focus, efficiency & your ability to deliver results. A little twist in how you phrase your strengths can make a big difference in leaving a positive impression.
