HOW TO CREATE A JOB SEARCH PLAN IN 2025

1. Know yourself: Sometimes we understand the power of knowing yourself during job search. A lot of times candidates ask me do you think I can make a good fit in marketing because I have been in call center all my life? I always tell them, identity your skills, values and interests first, then evaluate if you are a good fit for your targeted roles.

2. What are you really looking for in your career: Do you want to do a career pivot or progession? Do you want to stay in your current company or current industry. Ask yourself these questions and be honest about yourself.

3. Understand upto 5 types of job functions you can occupy: It’s not about the job title because they do vary from one company to another or one country to another so evaluate using functions/responsibilities. These functions will help you understand the types of jobs you can apply for.

4. Research: Identify upto 100 companies that interests you locally or internationally including their size, company culture, type of hires (remote, hybrid, physical) and industry and make a list. Research about the current status to understand if they are hiring or not and you can do this by checking their website or the news.

5. Alignment: Before you decide which company to go for, check if what they stand for align with your values and career goals. Don’t underestimate this because culture fit is everything.

6. Set targets. Don’t underestimate the power of setting SMART goals because this will help you to be accountable to your plan and self or stay motivated (job search can be tiresome and frustrating). Goals like how many companies do you want to approach daily, how do you approach them, how much time do you want to spend per day.

7. Mode of application: Decide how you want to approach the applications because some companies you want to work for may or may not be hiring which dosent matter because you can use unsolicited emails, networking and leverage social media platforms like LinkedIn to contact the hiring personnel.
