Position Overview
The Associate, Legal Affairs will play a pivotal role in providing a wide range of legal services and support to Strathmore University. This position ensures that the University remains compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements, contributing to the seamless delivery of quality services.
Key Responsibilities
As an Associate, Legal Affairs, your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Legal Advisory Services
- Provide sound legal advice to the University’s management and departments on a broad range of issues including contractual matters, governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
- Interpret and explain legal language and provide strategic guidance on the implications of legal documents.
- Contract Management
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, memoranda of understanding, and other legal documents to safeguard the University’s interests.
- Ensure proper maintenance and management of all contractual documentation in compliance with institutional policies.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes and provide timely updates and recommendations to the University’s leadership.
- Dispute Resolution and Litigation Management
- Manage the University’s litigation portfolio by liaising with external counsel and coordinating internal processes related to disputes and claims.
- Propose alternative dispute resolution mechanisms where applicable.
- Risk Management
- Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the University’s interests.
- Conduct periodic legal audits and risk assessments to address potential vulnerabilities.
- Training and Awareness
- Organize and facilitate legal awareness programs for University staff and stakeholders.
- Develop training materials and conduct sessions to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and institutional policies.
- Policy Development and Review
- Assist in the drafting, review, and implementation of University policies and procedures.
- Ensure that policies align with the legal framework and best practices within the higher education sector.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory bodies, legal advisors, and other external stakeholders to address legal matters efficiently.
- Represent the University in negotiations, mediations, and other official engagements.
