  1. DIRECTORATE OF UNIVERSITY SECURITY SERVICES

Director, University Security Services – Grade 14

Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance) the Director, Security Services will be in-charge of security and safeguarding University properties:

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Enforcement of University rules, regulations and procedures
  2. Collection of intelligence
  3. Safeguarding University property
  4. Co-ordination of all Security operations
  5. To be proactive and sensitive to security issues
  6. Advising the University Management on security matters
  7. Reviewing the security arrangements
  8. Training of personnel on security awareness
  9. Capacity to create a harmonious working relationship with all the teams; internal, external/private and seconded
  10. Able to strengthen the working relationship with the National Security System

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a Security related field from a recognized University
  2. Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
  3. KCE Division II/ KCSE mean grade C+ and above
  4. Served in the Discipline Forces and attained the rank of Major / Superintended of Police and above
  5. Over fifteen (15) years’ work experience
  6. Knowledge of Fire/Disaster Management and first aid
  7. Knowledge of Intelligence collection/ investigations
  8. Police Clearance certificate
  9. Computer literate
  10. Clean discharge certificate if applicable

Deputy Director, Grade 12 – University Security Services

Reporting to the Director, University Security Services, Deputy Director will coordinate security services, receive and review security reports and investigate security related incidents.  

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Provide counsel in the supervision of investigative tasks within the University.
  2. Report unusual activity or suspicions on safety issues to the Director or management.
  3. Properly complete incident reports and misconduct reports in the University.
  4. Prepare and disseminate security reports to be used by management for decision making from time to time as per request.
  5. Participate actively in professional growth and advancement of skills among the security staff in the University.
  6. Build and leverage on positive relationship with students in order to keep the University a safe learning environment.
  7. Lead efforts to escalate inappropriate student behaviors and assist students to maximize their time on educational activities.
  8. Make recommendations for corrective actions on any emerging issues in the Security department in the University.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors’ Degree in criminology or security related field, Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences or in any other relevant areas from a recognized University
  2. At least KCSE mean grade C+ (Plus) or equivalent
  3. Must have served as at least Chief Inspector of Police in National Police Service or a Captain in Kenya Defense Forces.
  4. At least five (5) years’ working experience as a Security Manager or Senior Administrative Officer with experience in security management
  5. Computer literate
  6. Valid certificate of good conduct
  7. Relevant additional training in security operations and investigative skills will be an added advantage.
  8. Knowledge of relevant legislations
  9. Knowledge of professional standards
  10. Clean discharge certificate where applicable.
