About the Role
As the Associate, Legal Affairs, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal services and advice to Strathmore University. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, managing legal risks, and supporting various departments to achieve their objectives effectively and ethically. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex legal landscapes within the higher education sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Advisory Services:
- Provide timely and accurate legal advice to the University’s management and departments on a variety of legal issues, including contracts, policies, and regulatory matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and other legal documents to protect the University’s interests.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the University and advise on their implications.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure that the University complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, including corporate governance standards.
- Identify and assess potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of the University’s policies and procedures to ensure alignment with legal requirements.
- Dispute Resolution and Litigation:
- Manage and oversee legal disputes involving the University, including liaising with external legal counsel.
- Represent the University in legal proceedings when necessary.
- Develop strategies to resolve conflicts efficiently while safeguarding the University’s reputation.
- Policy Development:
- Collaborate with various departments to develop, review, and implement policies and procedures that align with legal standards.
- Provide training and awareness programs to staff on legal and compliance matters.
- Regulatory Liaison:
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and legal institutions.
- Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory authorities.
- Ensure that the University’s activities align with the legal frameworks governing higher education institutions.
- Contract Management:
- Maintain a centralized system for managing all University contracts.
- Monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with agreed terms and conditions.
- Provide guidance on contract disputes and termination processes.
- Other Duties:
- Support the University in handling intellectual property rights and trademarks.
- Assist in drafting and reviewing governance documents, such as the University’s charter and bylaws.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the University management to support institutional objectives.
