Duties and Responsibilities
As a Youth Officer, you will work under the Education and Youth Unit in UNEP’s Ecosystems Division, which oversees education outreach and youth projects. Your key responsibilities will include:
Programme Delivery – Tide Turners Plastic Challenge Project
- Collaborate with delivery partners, including WAGGGS, WOSM, Captain Planet, CEE, and WWF, to ensure the success of Phase 5.2 of the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge Project.
- Serve as the focal point for partner coordination, ensuring timely deliverables for the programme’s second funding phase.
- Organize an Africa-focused event in Nairobi, likely during UNEA 6, in collaboration with Member States and programme partners.
- Oversee timely narrative and financial reporting from partners and donors.
- Identify and onboard two new partners in key countries and develop project execution plans.
- Collaborate with the Communications Officer to strengthen monthly outreach efforts and coordinate webinars, discussions, or updates for partners.
Scaling Up the Programme – Pacific and Caribbean Regions
- Work with regional coordinators to expand the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge to target countries in the Pacific and Caribbean regions.
- Provide support for programme delivery and communications efforts in these regions.
- Assist the Chief of Unit in meeting the funding requirements of the programme.
General Programme/Project Management
- Provide reliable administrative coordination for programme and project planning activities, ensuring adherence to UNEP policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Prepare accurate reports, handle requisite follow-up tasks, and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, political science, environmental management, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, or a related area.
- Essential skills include:
- Project Design: Proven ability to design projects that secure buy-in and deliver results.
- Project Management: Strong track record in managing complex, global projects efficiently.
- Communications: Ability to engage diverse stakeholders, write high-quality reports, and deliver proposals.
- Desirable experience includes working with youth organizations, fostering innovation, and adapting existing programmes for greater impact.
- Fluency in English is required.
