HR: What are your salary expectations?

Candidate: I expect a salary between KES. 80,000 to KES. 120,000

HR: isn’t that too much for you?

Candidate: No, I have years of work experience and I have researched the average salary for this profession in the this location job role. Plus, I have XYZ technical skills and I fulfill all the requirements in the job description.

HR: Yes, I agree. But, we have a budget for KES.60,0000 only.

Candidate: Okay, I accept it.

So, what went wrong here?

👉The candidate gave salary numbers, which he shouldn’t have,
👉Recruiters offered him a lower salary.

Remember, HRs always offer a lower salary than the candidates ask for.

So, don’t give out your salary numbers.

Instead, change the question like, I want to know what is your budget for this job role.

First, get to know about what HR is offering.

If you are skilled at negotiating salary you will get more.
