How should you respond if a hiring manager asks for your last three months’ payslips during an interview?
When asked for a payslip during a job interview, it’s important to handle the situation professionally while also aiming for a good salary compensation.
Here are 2 effective ways to do that:
Scenario 1:
“I am bound by a non-disclosure agreement with my previous employer, which restricts me from sharing my payslip. Although I cannot disclose exact figures, I can confirm that my current compensation is in line with industry standards for my role and experience.”
If the interviewer still asks for your pay slip-
Scenario 2:
“My current total monthly compensation is Ksh 70,000. I have thoroughly researched the standard payscale for this role within the industry, and considering my experience and the value I bring, I am looking for a salary in the range of Ksh [Y amount to Z amount]. This range is based on market data and reflects the expertise and skills I will contribute to your team.”
You can use the second response if the interviewer has decided to move forward with your candidature.
